Tarrytown, NY, October 6, 2008 - Westcon Group, Inc., the leading specialty distributor in networking, convergence, security and mobility, announced that it has launched a strategic initiative with Nortel to help resellers increase opportunities within the healthcare industry, where aging infrastructures and increasing patient populations have rendered many networks inefficient.
Through its MobilityPoint program, Westcon is providing a special series of seminars in major U.S. cities throughout October and November that help resellers understand and qualify opportunities for deploying VoIP and mobility solutions in the healthcare market, which is expected to continue its growth trajectory over the next decade.
“Hospitals and medical practices face unrelenting demands to deliver critical care solutions that drive productivity across secure, mobile networks. This represents an opportunity for repeatable revenue for resellers,” said Chris Metaxas, Vice President of Sales for Westcon Group. “In conjunction with Nortel, we are providing healthcare-oriented resellers with the training they need to deliver solutions that streamline costs, maximize productivity and most importantly, improve patient care.”
Nortel has introduced the IP Mobility Solution, which automates the delivery of real-time information to physicians and clinicians wherever they are. Solutions like this enable staff members with access to real-time patient information from anywhere at anytime. The Nortel Clinical Alarms & Alerts Solution is capable of managing a hospital’s full range of event notifications and patient alerts, putting relevant information directly in the hands of the right clinicians at the right time.
“Real-time information is vital in many industries, but especially so in healthcare,” commented Net Payne, vice president North America Marketing, Nortel. “By automating delivery to physicians Nortel’s solution puts the most up-to-date information in the healthcare professionals’ hands at any given moment. That information allows those healthcare professionals to make their decisions in a timely manner, but more importantly it lets them make the right decision faster, since they have access to current information. As a charter vendor of Westcon’s MobilityPoint Program, we have already seen how we can work together to bring these types of solutions and business benefits to the customer.”
For hospitals and other facilities, advancements in diagnostic technologies, digital record-keeping and software driven processes require an advanced network capability which can deliver information securely and intelligently to multiple users. Westcon’s MobilityPoint program provides resellers with a single source for solutions that accomplish this goal.
“In many cases, doctors, nurses and other healthcare practitioners are overwhelmed and overextended and their networks are simply not helping them deal with their patient load,” said Josh Bailey, CTO of Atlanta-based Layer 3 Communications, LLC. “But taking advantage of Westcon’s MobilityPoint program and Nortel’s healthcare-oriented solutions means, we can now demonstrate how an IP mobility solution increases staff efficiency, reduces clinical errors, and extends the hospital’s overall capabilities for the benefit of those patients by providing doctors and other healthcare professionals with the most up-to-date information at all times.”
